Fenty, Nickles to talk about Office of Risk Management audit

D.C. Mayor Adrian Fenty and Attorney General Peter Nickles are scheduled to hold a news conference in a few hours to discuss a recent audit of the city’s Office of Risk Management, The Washington Examiner has learned.

City hall sources said the office has deducted millions of dollars in life insurance payments from disabled city workers but were having trouble accounting for the money, The Examiner first reported in May.

The FBI has also began an initial investigation of the office, we first reported.  Ward 3 Councilwoman Mary Cheh has asked the city’s auditor to investigate, saying she has” concerns about improper denials … a general lack of knowledge of the relevant law … and even questions about whether the [agency] is properly managing claims.”
