CHICAGO (AP) — County clerks across Illinois are working out the details on how they’ll offer Election Day voter registration.
Gov. Pat Quinn signed a law Tuesday that allows for same-day registration and extended early voting, among other things.
Cook County Clerk David Orr says sites for Election Day registration will be limited. He estimates it’ll cost the county roughly $50,000 to implement the new law. He says considering the size of the county, it’s not much.
The state’s smaller counties say they’re still taking stock.
For instance, Pike County in western Illinois has one early voting site at the county building in Pittsfield. Pike County Clerk Donnie Apps says county officials plan to meet soon on the issue.
The new law only applies to the November election, but could be extended.
