Tough crowd, Jimmy Fallon, tough crowd.
During his opening monologue on “The Tonight Show” on Monday, host Fallon offered his congrats to former First Daughter Chelsea Clinton and her husband after it was announced the couple would be expecting their first child.
But the funny man’s personal take on the Clinton baby didn’t sit well with the audience.
“If it’s a girl, it’ll get some of Chelsea’s old hand-me-downs,” Fallon joked. “And if it’s a boy, it’ll get some of Hillary’s.”
The crowd, not quite feeling Fallon’s humor, erupted in a chorus of boos. The “Tonight Show” host, in an effort to save the joke, attempted to explain his gag.
“It’s very … it’s a little pantsuit, little pantsuit,” he said. “It’s a little cream pantsuit. … It wasn’t that hard of a joke. What’s the big deal?”
Former First Lady and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has become notorious for her pantsuits.
