Man missing after Capitol Heights house fire

A fire destroyed a Capitol Heights home early Tuesday, and authorities are still looking for a man who sometimes stayed there.

The blaze broke out at the two-story house at 722 Mentor Ave. at about 4 a.m., according to Prince George’s County fire and emergency services.

Four people escaped from the home unharmed, the fire department said. Another man occasionally stays at the house and it was unknown whether he was inside at the time of the fire. Authorities have tried to contact him, but have not been able to do so.

A dog died in the blaze, fire officials said.

The house was a total loss, though damages are still being calculated.

Investigators are working to determine the origin and cause of the fire.
