George Mason’s men’s basketball team did not have to venture far from its Fairfax campus to craft next year’s recruiting class.
Building on last season’s Final Four appearance, the Patriots have added St. John’s High senior forward Vlad Moldoveanu, who verbally committed Thursday. The 6-foot-11 Romanian native averaged 12 points and six rebounds per game last season as the Cadets reached the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference championship game. He was named third-team All-WCAC.
“It’s a great school, a great coaching staff,” said St. John’s coach Paul DeStefano, who said Moldoveanu chose the Patriots over offers from West Virginia and William & Mary. “I think it’s a perfect situation for Vlad and he’s excited about it.”
Moldoveanu joins two other locals in George Mason’s recruiting class. Senior guards Isaiah Tate (DeMatha High) and Cameron Long (Freedom High) have verbally committed. All three are expected to sign letters of intent next month when the early signing period begins.
