With all these presidential outings to restaurants such as Equinox and Citronelle, we had to wonder when Barack Obama would hit up a more, er, casual eatery.
The wait is over. Despite a published schedule that had Obama and Vice President Joe Biden lunching privately in the Oval Office, the two men hit the road Tuesday afternoon for Ray’s Hell Burger in Arlington.
According to White House pool reporter Linda Feldmann, the two men waited their turn in line, and paid their tabs, lest the media call them out as “freeloaders.”
In fact, Obama not only left a $5 tip, he also called back to the media assembled and asked what they wanted — his treat.
“Some declined,” wrote Feldmann, “but others of us … didn’t want to seem ungracious, so we ordered burgers.”
Supposedly, those burgers were wrapped up to go, but, says Feldmann, “I’m still waiting for my burger.”
