THE 3-MINUTE INTERVIEW: Linda Roth Conte

Linda Roth Associates is a public relations hospitality firm in D.C. whose clients include well-known restaurants and hotels, as well as a number of non-profit hospitality organizations and the Navy Memorial. Roth Conte started her company 20 years ago.

Is there something about your firm that is unusual or fun, something that most people don’t know?

We also work with aviation. One of our clients is Anton Airfood, we worked closely with them and then later the company was sold. But because we worked with them so closely our offices are actually based in a hangar at Reagan airport. We also work with Iceland Express, and when they launched in the U.S., one of our campaigns used a plane the company bought from the heavy metal band Iron Maiden. The band’s artwork is painted on the outside of the plane. It was incredible.

You work with a number of charitable organizations, as well as belonging to some of the most prominent hospitality organizations on the east coast. Is there anything interesting our readers can expect this month?

I serve on the boards of the D.C. chapter of Les Dames d’Escoffier, the D.C. chapter of the American Marketing Association, and Cohn’s Culinary Hospitality & Management Academy. On March 24, there is a big fundraising event being held at Tyson’s Galleria. We’re voting on who has the best tasting and looking cake in the D.C. area. Our celebrity chefs include Carla Hall and Heather Chittum Roth from “Top Chef” and SClBRoland Mesnier, former White House pastry chef.

Where did you grow up?

I grew up in Baltimore and went to college at the University of Maryland, and then came to D.C. My first job I worked for a [Georgetown] nightclub called Tramp’s — the logo was based on Charlie Chaplin’s most memorable character, the Little Tramp.
