The Discovery space shuttle is expected to fly over the District in April before making its final home in the Smithsonian’s National Air and Space Museum collection. Smithsonian Secretary Wayne Clough the shuttle will be flown on the back of a Boeing 747 to Washington Dulles International Airport on April 17 before joining the museum’s massive hangar in Northern Virginia. A museum spokeswoman later said the flyover has not been confirmed and details are still being finalized. The shuttle will be formally welcomed at a ceremony on April 19 at the museum’s Udvar-Hazy Center in Chantilly. Courtney Zott
