Riders on the storm
You know that actor Ed Begley Jr. has a thing for Washington if he chooses to spend the day after Thanksgiving in our fair city.
“They were wondering what I’m doing here on the day after Thanksgiving and why I’m not home with family,” Begley told us.
Well, yeah, why was that? Turns out that the “St. Elsewhere” / “Arrested Development” / “Living with Ed” star was in town Friday as
part of the LOOK UP campaign, which hopes to educate consumers about ways to conserve energy. Begley, who’s also a cycling aficionado, began his day with a bike ride around town and then stopped by Lowe’s in Alexandria to encourage customers to make eco-friendly energy decisions.
“These things are important to me,” said Begley. “I’m happy to spend the day after Thanksgiving doing this.”
The weather didn’t complement his message, however: The spirit of the event was to hammer home ways to stay warm while its freezing outside, but even Begley had to admit that, during his visit, “it’s been unseasonably warm here.”
But Begley hopes that his message will be more warmly received by an Obama administration than it was during the past eight years.
“Obama’s been very good on the environment and promises to be a lot better than what we’ve had recently. … I’m a big fan of his and I’m glad that he’s going to be president.”
If only Begley hung around another couple of days, he could have seen how the current president rolls. Although Begley’s not a fan, he no doubt would have been impressed at President Bush’s two-hour stay at Fort Belvoir on Sunday morning, where he rode through the cold drizzle.
