Hunter rescued after shooting

A hunter was rescued from a wooded area of Fort Washington after an apparently accidental shooting.

The man was hurt in the woods about a half mile from Indian Head Highway and Old Fort Road at about 1:15 p.m. Saturday, according to Prince George’s County fire and emergency services. The area is only accessible by foot and emergency responders had to carry the man through the heavily wooded terrain.

The hunter suffered a gunshot wound to his abdomen, authorities said. He was flown to a trauma center in critical condition. The man’s name was not released; fire officials only said he was in his 60s.

A firefighter also injured his foot during the rescue. The firefighter was treated at a hospital but has been released.
