Sen. Jeff Sessions, stepping up his attack on President Obama’s “executive amnesty,” said the administration’s plan for worker amnesty gives illegal immigrants access to Social Security, Medicare and a worker card despite congressional and voter opposition.
Noting that Congress has voted against granting worker rights to illegal immigrants, Republican Sessions said that the president through his recent executive actions has created an “alternative immigration system” to get his way.
That includes promises of Social Security and participation in health and social welfare programs, said Sessions, rapping both the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program which delayed deportation of children and Obama’s new move granting worker amnesty to some 4-5 million parents of illegal children.
“Congress said no and the president has gone forward,” said the Alabama senator.
Speaking at Judicial Watch Inc. Monday afternoon, Sessions added that the president’s recent moves on immigration are part of a broader effort to consolidate power in the White House, ignore Congress’s wishes, and shake up the nation’s legal system.
“It’s bigger than just the immigration question,” he said at Judicial Watch.
“I worry about our future,” said Sessions, who said that the country is in a “post-modern drift.”
Explaining, he said that “we are drifting away from a plain legal system.” That, Sessions said, will undermine American confidence in government. “It has a corrosive effect, I think, on America.”
