Haynesworth settles road-rage case

An assault charge against Albert Haynesworth has been dismissed after the Washington Redskins defensive lineman reached an agreement with the alleged victim.

Fairfax County District Court records show a judge dismissed the misdemeanor assault charge Tuesday morning. Haynesworth had been accused of assaulting a driver who made a gesture at him on the Fairfax County Parkway in February.

Virginia judges can dismiss misdemeanor assault charges if the accused reaches an “accord and satisfaction” agreement with the victim, which generally consists of financial payment.

The Associated Press reports that the case settled at a Tuesday hearing, but the details of the agreement weren’t public.

The charge stemmed from a Feb. 2 altercation on the Fairfax County Parkway near New Dominion Parkway, when a 38-year-old man driving a Honda Civic thought a man driving a pickup truck was tailgaiting. The Civic driver made a “non-verbal hand gesture,” according to police. When the cars stopped at a red light, the pickup truck driver — later identified as Haynesworth — allegedly got out of his vehicle and assaulted the Civic driver.

The Civic driver was treated for minor injuries.

Haynesworth is also facing a misdemeanor sex abuse charge in the District.
