Jon Stewart opened “The Daily Show” Monday night with a segment on the ongoing Brian Williams saga that has forced the NBC Nightly News anchor to suspend himself from his position.
Of course, Williams has undergone extreme scrutiny in the media after admitting that he misled the public with his coverage of the Iraq War in 2003.
“Today marks the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II,” Stewart said, mocking Williams. “I know because I killed Hitler.”

However, the comedian likened Williams’ situation to “most cases of masturbation,” suggesting that “being caught is punishment enough.”
The majority of news outlets have, instead, increased their examination of Williams and his credibility. Stewart suggested that such scrutiny is misplaced.
“I am happy,” the comedian said sarcastically. “Finally, someone is being held to account for misleading America about the Iraq War.”
“Now, it might not necessarily be the first person you’d want held accountable on that list,” he continued, taking a shot at the Bush administration, “but never again will Brian Williams mislead this great nation about being shot at in a war we probably wouldn’t have ended up in if the media had applied this level of scrutiny to the actual f—ing war.”
