Rep. Eric Swalwell, D-Calif., said he believes singer and actress Cher may be on to something when she voiced her support this week of him becoming running mates with former Vice President Joe Biden, also a Democrat, in 2020.
“Or Swalwell-Biden, Wolf. I’m open to entertaining both variations,” Swalwell joked with CNN’s Wolf Blitzer Thursday when asked about the possibility of him campaigning as Biden’s No. 2. “And I was actually, as a fan of Cher, and my mom, who has been to many of her concerts, my mom was thrilled. I think my mom has sent that to every person in the world she has ever talked to.”
The lighthearted conjecture comes as Cher on Sunday floated the idea of Biden, 76, launching a 2020 bid for the White House “with someone young.” The entertainer was in Washington, D.C., to be honored by the Kennedy Center.

“[Sen.] Kamala Harris or — I can’t remember what Swalwell’s first name is but you can look it up,” Cher told ITK when pressed for a suggestion. Harris, D-Calif., is 54, while Swalwell is 38.
Neither Biden, Swalwell, or Harris have formally announced their plans to contest the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination, though they have all indicated they will make their final decision public soon.
Cher, a high-voltage surrogate for Hillary Clinton in 2016, is an ardent critic of President Trump.
