A woman died and several people have been injured after concertgoers stormed the exits of a concert venue in Rochester, New York, because they thought they heard gunshots ring out, causing a stampede Sunday night.
Lt. Nicholas Adams with the Rochester Police Department said officers initially responded to the Rochester Main Street Armory due to shots being fired but later learned that none of the nine victims appeared to have gunshot wounds. “At this time, there is no evidence to support a shooting having occurred inside the event. The injuries appear to be as a result of a large crowd pushing towards the exits following accounts of individuals hearing what they believed to be gunshots,” Adams said.

A 33-year-old woman, who was not named, died in the stampede. Two other people were hospitalized and were listed as being in critical condition with life-threatening injuries. Six others were brought to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to police.
Rappers GloRilla and Finesse2Tymes were performing when people thought they heard gunshots at about 10:30 p.m. Sunday, according to local outlet WHEC. Others heard the cries of panic and began rushing to the exits, causing the stampede.

“All I know, it was a lot of running. A lot of people got hurt. I see people on the ground, like hurt badly,” one concertgoer told the news station. It was deathly packed. So I knew I had to get up out of there.”
GloRilla tweeted just after midnight in response to the news. “I’m just now hearing about what happened wtf praying everybody is ok,” she wrote, along with crying and praying emojis.

Police said they would answer more questions regarding the tragedy on Monday morning.
