RNC targets Hillary in swing states with six-figure ad buy

The Republican National Committee is targeting former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton ahead of her expected Sunday presidential announcement with a “Stop Hillary” campaign in early primary voting states.

An online ad for the campaign, on which the RNC says it spent a six-figure sum, aims to diminish support for Clinton in Iowa, Ohio, Florida, Virginia, Colorado and North Carolina.

The ad features a shadowy figure walking out to greet what appears to be a crowd while quotes from news shows critical of Clinton play as background.

“Not really working out well,” one quote says. “Potentially catastrophic boom for Hillary Clinton,” says another.

On Saturday, RNC Chairman Reince Priebus said Clinton is “actually a pretty good person for us to run against.” He said Clinton “unites the [Republican] Party, she allows us to raise a lot of money and allows us to recruit a lot of volunteers.”

Clinton is reportedly set to announce her campaign for the Democratic presidential nomination on Sunday.

On the Republican side, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz and Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul have both announced their intentions to seek the GOP nomination for president. Florida Sen. Marco Rubio is expected to make his announcement on Monday.
