Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., is adding his name to the list of Democrats and Republicans who will
not vote to give Ben Bernanke a second term as Fed chief.
McCain said Sunday he was leaning against voting for Bernanke and today he made his final decision.
“Our country is still facing an economic crisis and while I appreciate the service that Chairman Bernanke has performed as Federal Reserve Chairman, I believe that he must be held accountable for many of the decisions that contributed to our financial meltdown,” McCain said in a statement explaining his decision.
Both Democratic and Republican senate leaders say Bernanke will be approved, despite the growing list of opposition. Sen. Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., has refused to say whether he will back Bernanke for another term.
