Mitch McConnell accuses Dems of ‘hyperventilation and orchestrated antics’ over Kavanaugh

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., accused Democrats of engaging in political theater at Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation hearing on Tuesday.

McConnell said Democrats can’t find any real reasons to oppose Kavanaugh, who if confirmed is expected to alter the balance of the court in favor of the Right for the first time in decades.

“They are running out of options,” McConnell said in a Senate floor speech. “They can’t find any substantive reasons why he doesn’t deserve confirmation. That explains the hyperventilation and orchestrated antics at this morning’s hearings where they talked about almost anything besides his distinguished record.”

On day one of the Kavanaugh’s confirmation hearing, Democrats attempted to slow down the process by repeatedly asking for a vote to postpone the process. Democrats say they want more time to obtain records from Kavanaugh’s tenure working as staff secretary for President George W. Bush.

But McConnell said Tuesday that the Senate will finish the hearings and hold a vote on Kavanaugh, who the GOP wants confirmed by the Oct. 1 start of the new Supreme Court term.

“No amount of partisan opposition and political theater will stop the Senate from doing its job,” McConnell said.
