Kristol: Hopefully, Trump Will Start ‘Thinking As a President’

During Monday’s edition of Andrea Mitchell Reports on MSNBC, THE WEEKLY STANDARD editor at large Bill Kristol sided with CIA Director John Brennan’s assessment that President-elect Donald Trump “[did not have] a full appreciation of Russian capabilities … intentions and actions.” Trump tweeted his displeasure with Brennan on Sunday evening.

Said Kristol:

“In this case, I think I share John Brennan’s judgment. … I can see why he’s a little exasperated by the president-elect, who tweets things about our intelligence community, accused him of leaking without knowing whether he’s leaked anything or not, and accuses the intelligence community of behaving [like] Nazi Germany. … And Russia, I get it. It is just so startling. This is a guy who lashes out at everyone, Donald Trump, except for Putin. Putin, he treats with kid gloves. And so, I think that reflects his view of Putin and his view of the world, I suppose. And I think an awful lot of Americans are worried about that.”

He also said this about Trump’s tweets against Brennan:

“He’s going to be sworn in four days. Is it wise? Is it prudent? … He seems to have no appreciation that he should even be thinking this way. … He’s not been thinking as a president-elect for the last two months. Hopefully, on Friday, he starts to think as a president.”
