Record 16.8 million illegal immigrants cost US $163 billion

The illegal immigrant population in America has surged under President Joe Biden, reaching a record of nearly 17 million, according to a new analysis of Census Bureau data.

At 16.8 million, the population has increased 1.3 million since 2022 when Biden’s liberal border and asylum policies hit and he eliminated former President Donald Trump’s anti-crossing agenda on the U.S.-Mexico border, said the Federation for American Immigration Reform, a group critical of Biden’s efforts.

In an update of their annual reports on the illegal immigrant population and how much it potentially costs Americans, FAIR also estimated a price tag of $163 billion and said it would grow to $200 billion in just three years.

“At the current pace of illegal immigration, more new illegal aliens will have settled in the U.S. in the first three years of the Biden administration than in the entire decade of the 2010s,” said the new report shared with Secrets.

“The impact of these policies is causing social upheaval, setting states against other states, big cities against surrounding communities, overwhelming school districts and social service providers, as economic migrants from all across the globe pour across our borders,” said Dan Stein, president of FAIR, in releasing the group’s report.

“As just about every mayor and governor around the country — including those who preside over jurisdictions that have declared themselves sanctuaries for illegal aliens — has loudly proclaimed, the fiscal and social burdens of the Biden administration’s sabotage of our immigration enforcement policies are unsustainable,” he added.

The report preceded Friday’s Supreme Court decision allowing the Biden administration to look the other way in prioritizing which illegal immigrants in the U.S. to deport.

In a related report, Homeland Security revealed that in just one year, more than 850,000 foreign visitors overstayed their authorized stay, another record high.

“Visa overstays are a significant contributor to our nation’s illegal immigration problem,” said Jessica Vaughan, who analyzed the fiscal 2022 numbers for the Center for Immigration Studies.

She noted that large numbers from China, Mexico, and Venezuela did not leave the country when they were supposed to. “ICE should be directed to expand enforcement programs that target overstays. Laws should be tweaked to impose the same penalties for overstayers as illegal border crossers. Congress should continue to press DHS to build the biometric entry-exit system that will help maintain the integrity of the visa programs,” said Vaughan, the center’s policy director.
