Running back Tim Hightower agreed to a contract with the Redskins, first announcing his news via Twitter with a simple message, “I’m baaaaaaaack.”
Hightower appeared in only five games last season, tearing his left anterior cruciate ligament on Oct. 23 at Carolina. Rookies Roy Helu and Evan Royster rushed for a combined five 100-yard games in his absence, but Hightower is arguably the most complete back on the roster. Coach Mike Shanahan raved about Hightower even after he was hurt and the rookies had played well, citing his work ethic among other attributes. He’s also considered a solid leader for a young running back group.
Hightower is not an explosive back, but he did manage 321 yards rushing in five games, with another 78 yards on 10 receptions. He has a career rushing average of 3.9 yards (it was 3.8 yards per carry in 2011). Hightower also is considered a solid pass protector. Hightower had recently visited New England.
