Secondary impresses

CB DeAngelo Hall

He seemed to pick off a pass every day during OTA sessions, whether it was a pass to his guy or a tipped pass. A full offseason and training camp should only enhance what the coaches can do with him in the defense.

RT Stephon Heyer

He did not distinguish himself vs. Andre Carter earlier in the week, but seemed to do better Thursday. Heyer will open camp as the starter and might even start the season. But the guess is that Mike Williams, if healthy, will eventually take over.

TE Fred Davis

The second-year Davis showed better hands than last summer when he dropped too many passes. Davis has good athleticism and can be a threat down the seam and on out routes. If his head is right, he’ll help provide mismatches.

SS Chris Horton

It’s hard to imagine Reed Doughty pushing him for the starting job. Horton made plays as a rookie and coaches have raved about his improvement. Horton has a much greater understanding of the defense and it shows in his movement on the field.
