Biden tries to turn back Florida’s red tide with warnings to seniors about GOP

President Joe Biden enthusiastically courted the votes of Florida seniors Tuesday, hammering home his administration’s efforts to lower prescription drug prices and claiming Republicans will undo that work should they take back Congress in November.

Biden, speaking alongside Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL) in Hallandale Beach, Florida, claimed Republicans additionally want to sunset Medicare and Social Security, causing additional economic “chaos” on top of current inflation.

“You’ve been paying into Social Security your whole life. You earned it. Now these guys want to take it away. Who in the hell do they think they are? Excuse my language,” the president remarked.

Biden additionally claimed that Republicans, like National Republican Senatorial Committee Chairman Sen. Rick Scott (R-FL) and Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI), are threatening to shut down the government if Biden does not work with them to undercut Medicare and Social Security.

“Look, this is irresponsible. Nothing, nothing, nothing would create more chaos and do more damage to the American economy than playing around with whether we pay our national bills,” he closed, adding he hopes that “God gives some of our Republican friends some enlightenment.”

The president has spent weeks campaigning against economic proposals from Scott and Johnson and used them to attack Republicans, but with his approval rating flagging following a summer bump, he has skipped over the majority of battleground states.

While the president has traveled to Pennsylvania more than five times since the summer, he has opted not to hold campaign events in Georgia, Arizona, or Nevada. In total, he has only visited six of the 14 states deemed by Cook Political Report as the most competitive Senate and gubernatorial races this cycle.

Both the candidates he campaigned for on Tuesday, Rep. Val Demings (D-FL) and Rep. Charlie Crist (D-FL), are trailing their respective Senate and gubernatorial opponents.

The RealClearPolitics polling average shows Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) leading Demings by 8 points and Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) maintaining a commanding 12-point lead over Crist.
