Brittney Delacy Hall was days from graduating from high school in 2007 when she was shot in the neck near her home in Northwest Washington.

D.C. detectives are still investigating her slaying and are asking the public to come forward with information that could lead to the 17-year-old’s killer.

Brittney was a senior at Booker T. Washington Public Charter School for Technical Arts who struggled between her studies and the lure of the fast life of some of her friends who lived near her Petworth neighborhood home. She had recently told her father that she had fallen in love and told friends she was planning to attend Bowie State University to major in criminal justice.

Around 11:30 p.m. May 12, 2007, Brittney was sitting with a male friend in a parked car on the 1300 block of Taylor Street NW when someone fired shots at the back of the car. A bullet struck her in the neck, and the shooter fled on foot.

Her friend drove her to Howard University Hospital. The gunshot had severed her spine. Brittney died at the hospital six days later as the result of her wounds.

Police believe she might have been mistakenly targeted by feuding neighborhood gangs. About a dozen people had been outside in the area at the time of the shooting, and police detectives believe someone saw something that could help them with the investigation.

Anyone with information about Brittney’s death can call the Metropolitan Police Department’s Synchronized Operations Command Center at 202-727-9099. Callers wishing to remain anonymous may call 1-888-919-CRIME (2746).

The police department offers a reward of up to $25,000 to anyone who provides information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or people responsible for any homicide committed in the District of Columbia.
