The White House is now calling the Libya terror attack that resulted in the death of four Americans, including the American ambassador to that country, a “terrorist attack.” From the pool report aboard Air Force One:
Indeed, this contradicts what Carney originally told the press:
“The unrest we’ve seen around the region has been in reaction to a video that Muslims, many Muslims find offensive. And while the violence is reprehensible and unjustified, it is not a reaction to the 9/11 anniversary that we know of or to U.S. policy,” said Carney. And this comes a few days after the American ambassador to the United Nations made the case that the attack was a group of protesters that got out of hand. As the AP reported:
“It seems to have been hijacked, let us say, by some individual clusters of extremists who came with heavier weapons,” Rice said, adding that such weaponry is easy to come by in post-revolutionary Libya.
There are now reports that maintain there were in fact no protests outside the American consulate in Benghazi the night of the attack.
