Clinton, Trump lead in Indiana

Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump are the favorites to win Indiana on Tuesday.

According to a poll released on Friday, Trump leads Ted Cruz and John Kasich 42-34-17 among likely Republican primary voters with 7 percent still undecided. While Trump holds the lead, the new tactical alliance between Cruz and Kasich could help the Texas senator get enough votes to surpass Trump in the Hoosier State.

If Trump wins, it will be a major setback to efforts to keep him below 1,237 delegates.

On the other side of the aisle, Clinton leads Bernie Sanders 51-43 among likely Democratic primary voters. The former secretary of state is strongest among those who identify as Democrats, leading 58-37.

While both candidates are tied among white and Hispanic voters (47-47) Clinton leads Sanders 73-23 among African American voters who make up 15 percent of the Indiana electorate.

At this point Sanders would have to win over 80 percent of the remaining pledged delegates to capture the Democratic nomination. Despite his odds, the Vermont senator continues to insist his campaign is in the race “to win” and will remain competitive through the California primary June 7.

The American Research Group poll was conducted April 27-28 among 400 likely Indiana voters with a margin of error of plus or minus 5 percentage points.
