Demonstrators try to break down door of Portland Police Association

Demonstrators in Portland, Oregon, have reportedly tried to break down the door of the Portland Police Association.

Portland Police said in a Wednesday tweet that no arrests were made following the incident.

“A protest has developed near North Lombard Street and North Campbell Avenue, where participants have tried to break down the door [of] the Portland Police Association,” the department tweeted at 2:15 p.m. local time. “To those participating in the protest, this direction is being given over loudspeaker: stay on the sidewalk, do not try to break into the building or violate any other laws. If you do you’re subject to arrest and/or use of force including less lethal weapons.”

At 4:21 p.m., the department posted an additional tweet.

“All protesters have left the neighborhood,” the post read. “There was some vandalism to the building, but no arrests were made, no force was used, and no one was injured. About 15 officers, 3 sergeants, and 1 lieutenant were pulled from patrol duties to respond to the event.”

The Portland Police Association did not immediately return the Washington Examiner’s request for comment on the matter.

The city of Portland has been the location of numerous protests since the death of George Floyd, a black man who died in Minneapolis last year after a police officer knelt on his neck for nearly nine minutes. The motivation for Wednesday’s alleged vandalism is unclear.
