Sebastian Gorka points to ‘Green New Deal’ in warning CPAC they are on ‘frontlines of war’ against communism

Sebastian Gorka, former deputy assistant to President Trump, warned conservatives Thursday they are on the “frontlines of war” to counter communism’s rise in the United States — pointing to Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s Green New Deal resolution.

“It’s a watermelon: green on the outside, deep deep red communist on the inside,” Gorka said of the Green New Deal at the Conservative Political Action Conference.

The resolution, introduced this month by Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., and Sen. Ed Markey, D-Mass., calls for achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions, along with guarantees for jobs, higher education, and high-quality healthcare, among other things, to all.

The controversial plan attracted heightened controversy after Ocasio-Cortez’s staff posted a fact sheet on her congressional website that called for cutting air travel, modifying every home and building to meet green energy standards, and modifying agriculture to eliminate cows. The fact sheet has since been removed and Ocasio-Cortez claimed it was posted accidentally.

“They want to take your pickup truck, they want to rebuild your home, they want to take away your hamburgers. This is what Stalin dreamt about, but never achieved,” Gorka said. “You are on the frontlines of the war against communism coming back to America under the guise of Democratic socialism — which is just the PC term for communism.”

The conference, known as CPAC, is held annually in National Harbor, Md. President Trump is slated to deliver a keynote address at the event on Saturday.
