FALMOUTH, Mass. (AP) — The Marine Biological Laboratory on Cape Cod has a new science partner, and it’s 7,500 miles away.
The lab in Falmouth announced Friday that it had signed an agreement on scientific cooperation with Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology Graduate University in Japan.

The institute in Okinawa is just a year old, while the Cape lab has been around for nearly 125 years.
But in a statement, the Marine Biological Laboratory said both institutions are devoted to creative research and graduate-level training in the natural sciences. And the lab said there are several areas of synergy between the two organizations, including marine biology, genomics and computational biology.
The lab says the agreement will open the door for exchanges of staff and information, as well as joint research.
