Debbie Wasserman-Schultz revives Republican War on Women following Sanford victory

According to Democratic National Committee chair Debbie Wasserman-Schultz, the GOP is waging war on women again — by electing ex-South Carolina governor Mark Sanford to South Carolina’s 1st Congressional seat.

During MSNBC‘s “Andrea Mitchell Reports” on Wednesday, the Florida Congresswoman argued Sanford’s victory “doesn’t send a very strong message to women.”

“The Republican Party understands that they have gone way off the issues that are important to women when they elect a candidate like Mark Sanford after his track record,” she told Mitchell.

Sanford, once a favorite for president, was caught cheating on his then-wife Jenny in 2009. The scandal almost ruined his political career — until now.

But if Wasserman-Schultz’s theory holds true that electing an adulterous candidate means the GOP doesn’t care about women’s issues, what happens if the disgraced former Congressman Anthony Weiner is elected to Mayor of New York? Does the Democratic Party also not care about women either?

And on that note, former President Bill Clinton is still a popular member of the Democratic Party even after he was caught having an affair with Monica Lewinsky. But his wife Hillary Clinton later became Secretary of State and is now the Democrats’ top pick for 2016, so that cancels out right?

If it’s sexist to elect adulterous men to office, then it’s definitely sexist to tell women in office to go back to working in a dress store. It was the former South Carolina Democratic Party chair who made that comment just yesterday about South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley.

It really makes criticizing the GOP for electing a philanderer to Congress a double-standard at this point!
