Christie: I’d rather jump off a bridge than be in Congress

Republican presidential candidate and New Jersey governor Chris Christie has never been one to mince words, and he made his disdain for Congress crystal clear Sunday.

During an interview with ABC’s “This Week,” Christie told host George Stephanopoulos that he would rather jump off the Brooklyn Bridge than serve in either the Senate or House amid dysfunction between the GOP establishment and Tea Party wings.

Christie made the comment after discussing his ability to keep the Republican caucus together in New Jersey to sustain the over 400 bills he has vetoed during his governorship.

“I’ve not only gotten things done, like pension reform and tenure reform that people said could never get done, but also I’ve vetoed more than 400 bills, and everyone of those vetoes has been sustained. It shows I keep the Republican Party together.”

“Maybe they should send me to the House caucus to help with that,” he added.

Stephanopoulos told the 2016 hopeful that he could run for speaker of the House with John Boehner, R-Ohio, resigning his post at the end of the month.

“I am not sir, no,” Christie told the host. “I would rather jump off the Brooklyn Bridge than be in Congress.”
