More than 150 assets belonging to a captured oligarch and ally of Russian President Vladimir Putin in Ukraine have been seized, Ukrainian officials announced on Thursday.
Authorities in Ukraine say they have taken possession of 26 cars, 32 apartments, 23 houses, 30 plots of land, 17 parking spots, and a yacht belonging to Viktor Medvedchuk, who was charged with treason last year and captured earlier this week attempting to flee the country.
“On April 13, the Lychakivskyi District Court of Lviv City, at the request of the State Bureau of Investigation, arrested 154 objects of more movable and immovable property of Ukraine’s MP Viktor Medvedchuk and his wife Oksana Marchenko,” Ukraine’s bureau of investigations said on Thursday, adding that shares in 25 companies belonging to the oligarch and his wife were also seized.
Medvedchuk was captured by Ukrainian authorities on Tuesday after spending more than a month on the run after escaping house arrest following Russia’s Feb. 24 invasion of Ukraine.

Activists found that the oligarch was spending his time during house arrest living in a lavish mansion outside of Kyiv that contained a replica of a 19th century railway dining car with luxurious furnishings, including a gold-gilded toilet and bidet hose.
Ukrainian officials said Russian agents planned to smuggle Medvedchuk by boat into a Russian-occupied region of Ukraine and then transport him to Moscow.
The 67-year-old oligarch was found wearing a Ukrainian army uniform when he was captured.

Medvedchuk had an estimated net worth of $620 million in 2021 and has close ties to Putin, who is reportedly the godfather of one of his daughters and reportedly favored installing Medvedchuk as the leader of a puppet government in Ukraine if Russia was able to overthrow the current government.
