Dems “welcome” Frederick back into the fold

Controversial former Republican Party of Virginia chairman Jeff Frederick is launching a bid for state Senate.

And, at least according to the Democratic Party of Virginia, Democrats couldn’t be happier.

On Monday, the DPVA released a video entitled, “Welcome, Back, Jeff!” which overlays some of his perceived foibles over the past few years, including a reference to the “Gettyburg address” during a floor speech on the House of Delegates and a controversial remark comparing Barack Obama to Osama bin Laden.

“This isn’t surprising,” Frederick wrote in an email in response. “As usual, the Democratic Party of Virginia lacks real solutions to create jobs and improve our economy, so they have to resort to childish attacks by piecing together half-truths.  Voters are tired of this sort of thing, and that’s why we’re working to bring people together to change politics as usual in Virginia.”

The former Prince William County delegate was ousted from his post as leader of the state party in early 2009 amid accusations of mishandling funds and not coordinating with Sen. John McCain’s 2008 presidential campaign.

He will square off against Tito “the Builder” Muñoz – who has garnered the support of once-and-possibly future U.S. Senator George Allen – in the GOP primary in the 36th district, which includes parts of Fairfax, Prince William and Stafford counties. Whoever emerges would square off against longtime Sen. Linda “Toddy” Puller, D-Fairfax.
