Lawmaker: Trump would be president for Americans, not refugees

A Donald Trump surrogate said on CNN Tuesday that Trump’s priority as president would be to American citizens, not Syrian refugees.

“America wants you to keep them safe. They are your first responsibility. The responsibility isn’t to anyone in Syria, the responsibility is to your citizens,” said Rep. Sean Duffy, R-Wis. Trump has promised to implement a policy of “extreme vetting” to prevent dangerous people from coming into the U.S., a position that has gotten even more attention after it was revealed that the suspect in the New Jersey and New York City bombings is an immigrant from Afghanistan who became a U.S. citizen.

Duffy argued that if elected Trump is “going to be a president for the United States of America, not a global president,” like President Obama.

He also criticized Obama for the Iran deal which he said gave cash payments to a country known to be one of the leading sponsors of terror, as well as Obama’s decision to release prisoners from Guantanamo Bay, and bring in refugees when we “can’t verify that they are going to keep us safe.”

In light of these decisions, Duffy said people are saying, “Mr. President, who are you looking out for?”
