UPDATED: Snowzilla forces cancellation of several national security events

The weekend’s blast of snow that buried Washington has caused a flurry of cancellations from Capitol Hill to the Pentagon and many think tanks in between.

A second day of the federal government being closed has caused even more delays and cancellations through Tuesday afternoon.

Here is a round up of what is and isn’t happening around the city.

Capitol Hill

In Congress, the Senate Armed Services Committee has already postponed its planned hearing for Tuesday morning on the service chiefs’ role in defense acquisition. A future date hasn’t been set yet, according to a release from the committee.

The subcommittee on strategic forces hearing on the future nuclear posture of the U.S. originally planned for Tuesday afternoon has been rescheduled for Wednesday at 2:30.

A Senate Foreign Relations Committee hearing scheduled for Tuesday morning on U.S. policy in Central Africa is postponed. The committee will meet Tuesday afternoon for a closed briefing on the administration’s strategy in Iraq and Syria that had originally been scheduled for Monday.

The House Terror Financing Task Force had planned to hold its first hearing of 2016 on Islamic State financing on Tuesday morning, but has postponed due to snow.

The House Armed Services Committee announced Monday afternoon that it would postpone its hearings for Tuesday and Wednesday. The Tuesday hearing on projection of forces in the South China Sea and Wednesday hearing on military healthcare and readiness will be rescheduled at a later date.

Pentagon

The D3 Innovation Summit, a half-day conference to promote innovation and partnerships between the Defense Department, State Department and U.S. Agency for International Development, will be rescheduled for a later date.

The Office of Personnel Management’s decision to keep the federal government closed a second day means all events at the building are also canceled on Tuesday.

Think tanks

The Mitchell Institute for Aerospace Studies event with Rear Adm. Michael Manazir, the director of air warfare on the staff of the chief of naval operations, scheduled for Tuesday morning, is also postponed because of the weather.
