Trump might do what Obama couldn’t: Effectively fight climate change

Looks like Mitt Romney isn’t the only one kissing the ring of President-elect Donald Trump, Hollywood celebrities are doing it too.

Throughout the campaign, Oscar-winning actor Leonardo DiCaprio continuously ripped Trump over his stance on climate change.

Referencing Trump’s claims that climate change is a hoax created by the Chinese to make U.S. manufacturing non-competitive, DiCaprio said in October, “The scientific consensus is in and the argument is over. If you do not believe in climate change, you do not believe in facts or in science or empirical truths and therefore, in my humble opinion, should not be allowed to hold public office.”

In a surprising turn of events, however, The Revenant actor who has pushed for action to combat climate change met with Trump at Trump Tower in New York City on Thursday morning to discuss green jobs.

According to a statement, Terry Tamminen, CEO of the Leonard DiCaprio Foundation, confirmed the meeting with the President-elect, his daughter Ivanka, and other members of Trump’s team on how focusing on renewable, clean energy could create millions of jobs.

DiCaprio and Tamminen gave a presentation to Trump that detailed how to “unleash a major economic revival” through “investments in sustainable infrastructure.”

Tamminen continued. “Our conversation focused on how to create millions of secure, American jobs in the construction and operation of commercial and residential clean, renewable energy generation.”

Well, if DiCaprio is pushing for a stimulus to the renewable energy industry similar to the $535 billion loan that President Barack Obama gave to Solyndra in 2009, then we’re in for more reckless government spending.

Solyndra folded in 2011 (2 years after receiving their government loan), and lost 1,100 jobs. That’s not the type of investments the government should be making.

On Wednesday, Trump tapped Oklahoma Attorney General Scott Pruitt to head up the Environmental Protection Agency. Pruitt has been mislabeled as a climate change denier by the mainstream media. If anything, he’s a skeptic, but believes Americans should keep the debate alive.

In May, Pruitt wrote in the National Review, “Scientists continue to disagree about the degree and extent of global warming and its connection to the actions of mankind. That debate should be encouraged — in classrooms, public forums, and the halls of Congress. It should not be silenced with threats of prosecution. Dissent is not a crime.”

Liberals are tearing their hair out (if they still have any left) over Pruitt’s appointment believing that Trump will completely reverse all of their efforts against climate change by dismantling the EPA. However, Trump is lending his ear to climate change advocates like DiCaprio and even former Vice President Al Gore.

Trump is exercising extreme caution when it comes to climate change because, as we’ve seen with Solyndra, simply throwing money at the problem won’t solve it.

If only liberals and green activists knew about Trump’s approach to climate change, we might not only further reduce its effects on the planet but you might be able to keep a little more green in your pocket.
