‘The Voice’ judge Adam Levine caught saying “I hate this country” on national TV

The Voice” judge Adam Levine found himself in the center of controversy after being caught saying “I hate this country” by a hot microphone on the NBC reality show Tuesday night.

The Maroon 5 frontman made the unpatriotic remarks after one of his singers, Amber Carrington, was “saved by America” – thus getting to move on to the next round of the singing competition show. Levine was waiting for the placement of his other two singers, Judith Hill and Sarah Simmons, who subsequently received the fewest votes from the audience and were thus booted from the competition.

While the voice was distinctively Levine’s, the camera was focused on another judge – country superstar Blake Shelton – at the time.

The 34-year-old singer quickly received angry messages and responses on Twitter with some calling for him to apologize, be fired from the show or even be deported (Levine is a U.S citizen).

Others were quick to defend him, however, stating that his comment was clearly a joke and that he was simply playing on the bad luck he was having that night, as his country star was saved but his R&B and rock singers failed to make the cut.

In an attempt to clarify that his comment was not meant to be taken seriously, Levine took to Twitter early this morning to post the definitions of “joke,” “humorless” and “misunderstand.”
