Iranian nuclear talks return

In an effort to reach a nuclear deal, talks between Iran and six other world powers will resume later this month in New York, the European Union announced Thursday.

The preliminary meetings will begin in Vienna on Sept. 11 between Iran and the “EU three” — France, Germany and the United Kingdom — before moving to New York on Sept. 18, Michael Mann, the spokesman of Catherine Ashton, tweeted on Thursday.

The Sept. 18 talks — to be led by Ashton, the EU’s foreign policy chief — will include China, Russia and the U.S., in addition to the “EU three.”

Negotiators face a Nov. 24 deadline for a deal, “that would offer Tehran a time frame for reducing sanctions in exchange by Iran to curtail their future nuclear activities,” according to the Wall Street Journal.

Earlier this month, tough sanctions were imposed on Iran, something President Hassan Rouhani called an “invasion.”
