Presidential contender Elizabeth Warren pulled no punches from the very get-go of Tuesday night’s Democratic primary debate. In her opening statement, Warren said that President Trump “disgraces the office of president every single day.” Then she promised to fight for anyone on that stage were they to become the party’s nominee, saying they would all make a better president than Trump.

Warren may very well be right that Trump’s conduct and rhetoric is sometimes disgraceful for a president of the United States. But she shouldn’t cast the first stone.
After all, the Senate is supposed to be a representative part of our legislative branch. But while Warren has been elected to represent my home state of Massachusetts since 2012, she has barely spent any time there, and achieved little to help our state. The most obvious example is that she misled us while running for Senate reelection in 2018 into thinking that she wouldn’t run for president in 2020.
Yet Warren was on the stage tonight nonetheless. Her constituents have never been a priority.
Boston Herald columnist Adriana Cohen wrote that “Since taking the reins from former U.S. Sen. Scott Brown in 2012, Warren’s most notable achievement has been grandstanding before the cameras and then fundraising off it to advance her plans to — you guessed it — leave Massachusetts in the dust.” She goes on to suggest that “Warren spent more time in Washington and jet-setting around the nation over the past six years to fuel her own ambitions while failing to serve her constituents.”
Many Massachusetts residents can confirm. Despite the Bay State’s overwhelming lean toward the Democrats, Warren isn’t as wildly popular as you’d expect. And she under-performed compared to both Hillary Clinton in 2016 and Barack Obama in 2012.
Warren is also one of the least bipartisan senators around. In fact, she ranks nearly 70th in the Senate for bipartisanship, according to the Lugar Center. Warren hasn’t sought out bipartisan solutions to help Massachusetts residents — she’s been too busy grandstanding.
Add this to Warren’s embarrassing history of posing as Native American to get ahead in her career, and she doesn’t have a leg to stand on. So before throwing shade at Trump for “disgracing” the office, Warren should realize that she’s been embarrassing the Senate for years.
