Rand Paul slams ‘thinly veiled bribes’ to Clinton Foundation

Rand Paul has issued a tough criticism of Hillary Clinton over donations to the Clinton Foundation from countries with poor records on women’s rights, calling the contributions “thinly veiled bribes” and accusing the former secretary of state of facilitating a war on women.

“The normal Clinton response is to cover up, deny, refuse to acknowledge,” the Kentucky senator told Politico Friday evening. “But the question is whether the country will rise up and respond to the unseemly nature of accepting foreign donations.”

Paul, a likely candidate for the Republican nomination for president, called on the likely Democratic frontrunner to return donations made to the Clinton Foundation. In recent weeks, Clinton has come under scrutiny for donations to the foundation from foreign governments and individuals associated with other countries.

A letter sent out by Paul’s political action committee Friday evening specifically mentioned Saudi Arabia, Brunei and the United Arab Emirates as governments that allow abuse of women from with Clinton accepted donations for her foundation.

“The way women are treated in these countries is flat-out disgusting,” the letter in Paul’s name said.

The letter asked readers to sign a petition for Clinton to return the money, and asked for contributions to the political action committee.

Paul traveled to New Hampshire Friday night to speak to Republican activists.
