Being a lame duck president apparently suits President Obama.
The latest Gallup poll found that Obama’s job approval rating is at its highest point since August 2013.
His approval rating is at 48 percent for the three-day period of Dec. 27-29, the highest three-day average since Aug. 21-23, 2013. Obama’s disapproval rating sits equal to that, marking the first time his approval-disapproval gap has not been negative since September 2013.
Obama’s overall average job approval is 42 percent. This year-end bump comes after months of falling approval ratings, particularly near the 2014 elections.
Gallup attributes the higher rating to the reaction among Hispanics to Obama’s immigration executive action, the president’s Cuba announcement, and the start of an economic recovery. However, they also admit that it might be due to the phenomenon known as the “Christmas bump,” which refers to “Americans’ more charitable attitudes in and around the Christmas season.”
