Editor’s note: Lawyers for former White House national security adviser Michael Flynn have disputed their client has taken a job at the Stonington Global lobbying firm.
A global lobbying firm has hired President Trump’s former national security adviser Michael Flynn as he awaits sentencing for lying to the FBI about his contacts with the Russians.
Flynn will be joining a new firm called Stonington Global LLC as the director of global strategy, the Wall Street Journal reported Tuesday. The firm will provide consulting and lobbying services for U.S. and foreign clients.
Washington lobbyist Nick Muzin and his New York partner Joey Allaham said they did not know Flynn before Allaham approached the former Trump adviser about joining the firm because “his experience speaks for itself.”
“I said to him, your life should not be stopped,” Allaham told the Wall Street Journal. “He has experience all over the world. He can do a lot for us. We are very lucky to get a man like that.”
Both partners declined to comment to the publication about Flynn’s legal troubles. Flynn agreed to cooperate in special counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia investigation and faces up to six months in jail.
“I will work every day to put my 33 years of experience in the military and serving Presidents of both parties in the White House to good use in helping companies and governments enhance the goals of freedom and liberty,” Flynn said in a statement.
Flynn’s son, Michael Flynn Jr., is also joining the firm.
Flynn was fired from his White House job after just 23 days after he lied to Vice President Mike Pence about his conversations with Russia’s ambassador to the U.S. He pleaded guilty in December to lying about those conversations when he was interviewed by the FBI.
Muzin and Allaham told the Wall Street Journal Flynn would need to at least temporarily step away from his job if he is sentenced to jail time, but they are confident he won’t be put behind bars.
