Donald Trump has took a swipe on Tuesday at the nearly half-dozen Republicans who have recently said they have no interest in being his running mate.
“It is only the people that were never asked to be VP that tell the press that they will not take the position,” the presumptive GOP presidential nominee tweeted Tuesday morning.
Trump’s tweet comes just 24 hours after Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, the talk of such vice presidential speculation, set the record straight, writing that he has “never sought, will not seek and [does] not want to be considered for Vice President,” on his Facebook page.
Others whose names have been floated, and who later indicated they have virtually no interest in being considered, include South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, former New Mexico Gov. Susana Martinez and Ohio Gov. John Kasich.
Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, a staunch support of Trump, also seemed to remove herself from the running on Sunday after telling CNN on Sunday she would be a “burden” on the ticket if Trump tapped her to be his vice president.
The Trump campaign has been tight-lipped about its vice presidential vetting process, which is reportedly being led by campaign manager Corey Lewandowski. The candidate is expected to announce his pick shortly before or at the GOP convention in July.
