Cincinnati police say ‘suspicious’ RV cleared ‘without incident’

Police in Cincinnati investigated a “suspicious” RV with its engine running near the Federal Building hours after a similar vehicle detonated in Nashville.

Several roads were shut down, and explosive detection K-9s were used to clear the area. After about an hour, the Cincinnati Police Department said the situation “concluded without incident,” and all roadways were reopened.

Earlier, authorities said they were investigating the vehicle “out of an abundance of caution,” considering the explosion in Tennessee.

“At this time, there is nothing else indicating there is anything else of a suspicious nature,” officials had said, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives as well as the Cincinnati Fire Department hazardous devices unit were on the scene.

The explosion in Nashville, which took place early Christmas morning, injured three people. Authorities said they believed it was an “intentional act.” A message broadcast from the vehicle could be heard warning of an imminent detonation before the explosion. Federal investigators are leading the inquiry.
