Chuck Schumer puts Senate healthcare bill odds at 50-50

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., said there are even odds that Senate Republicans would pass a bill to repeal the Affordable Care Act, aka Obamacare, despite Democratic efforts to sink the legislation.

“I think it’s 50-50. First, Democrats, we are doing everything we can to fight this bill because it’s so devastating for the middle class. I think they have, at best, a 50-50 chance of passing this bill. To get three senators to vote no, probably — you can say yes, you can say no, probably 50-50,” Schumer told ABC on Sunday.

As of Sunday, five Republican senators announced they wouldn’t be able to support the bill, which was first revealed publicly Thursday. Senate GOP leadership can afford just two defections to still pass the bill.

No Democrats are expected to jump ship and vote with Republicans on the bill.

Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., reportedly wants a vote on the healthcare bill later on this week before lawmakers leave Washington for the July 4 recess.
