Judge allows CMP to release more Planned Parenthood uncover videos

The controversy surrounding Planned Parenthood, the abortion industry, and the undercover videos alleging they’re illegally profiting from the sale of fetal parts has some new developments.

On Tuesday, Federal Judge William H. Orrick lifted the temporary restraining order on videos from the Center for Medical Progress (CMP) pertaining to the National Abortion Federation (NAF).

The move will certainly have some effects on Congressional hearings. Congress has issued a subpoena to view all of the videos, but has been able to do so because of the restraining order.

Last Tuesday, the House Oversight Committee heard the testimony of Planned Parenthood CEO and president Cecile Richards.

Chaffetz addressed the videos in his opening remarks. The committee sent a letter asking for the videos, for “the totality of the record.” About the restraining order he said that there “is conflict between the legislative branch and the judicial branch.” Chaffetz also added that “that is going to have to work itself out.”

It remains to be seen if David Daleiden, the creator of the videos, will testify.

The situation is making progress to working itself out.

The judge’s opinion read in part that:

Congress has the power to investigate, and it is not up to the courts to go beyond the narrow confines of determining that the committee’s inquiry is in its province.

Prior to responding to the Congressional subpoena, defendant CMP shall deliver to counsel for NAF and to the Court a true and correct copy of everything defendant will provide to Congress, including all video footage, documents and communications described in the subpoena. Further CMP shall not provide to Congress any footage, documents or communications that have not been specifically requested by the subpoena.

It will be closely watched to see what effects this video has on the Congressional hearings investigating Planned Parenthood and the abortion industry.
