Mike Pence to hit the campaign trail with Donald Trump

Indiana Gov. Mike Pence will hit the campaign trail with Donald Trump on Tuesday.

Pence will appear with Trump at a private fundraiser in Indianapolis in the evening before attending a rally with the presumptive GOP nominee at night in Westfield.

Pence, one of the top contenders to serve as Trump’s running mate, met with Trump just before the Fourth of July holiday weekend. The governor’s re-election campaign has been working toward a joint appearance with Trump before the convention since June, as the Washington Examiner previously reported.

If Trump picks Pence as his running mate, Hoosier state Republicans would probably learn the news later this week before the start of the convention. Friday, July 15, is the last day for an Indiana gubernatorial candidate to voluntarily withdraw from the general election ballot.

Trump, however, has long said he would make his running mate selection public at the GOP convention in Cleveland. If Pence’s actions in Indiana pre-empt Trump, it could spoil any surprise Trump has planned for the convention.
