Fort Meade committee gets $1.5M boost from feds

The regional committee tasked with planning for the impact of the Fort Meade expansion was given $1.5 million in federal planning funds.

Howard County Executive Ken Ulman and Anne Arundel County Executive John Leopold announced the award for the Fort Meade Regional Growth Planning Committee, which is taking a regional focus on the opportunities and challenges of the base realignment and closure.

The committee comprises Howard, Anne Arundel, Baltimore, Carroll and Prince George?s counties, and the cities of Laurel and Baltimore.

The money from the U.S. Secretary of Defense?s Office of Economic Adjustment will fund studies to address issues such as transportation, housing and community services. The grant will also help establish and staff a regional BRAC office.
