Ex-Cuomo staffer dies after Lyft driver ends ride, demands exit on highway

A Maryland man died after a Lyft driver prematurely ended his ride and demanded he exit the vehicle on a Delaware highway, according to police.

Sidney Wolf, who worked as a senior policy adviser for former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, was traveling from Dewey Beach, Delaware, to Bethany Beach, Maryland, around 1:45 a.m. on Sunday with five of his friends when a disagreement broke out between the group and the driver. The driver then ended the ride and stopped in the middle of the left southbound lane to demand they exit the vehicle, according to police.

As the group exited the car, an oncoming Toyota Corolla attempted to swerve out of the lane to avoid colliding with the stopped car and struck Wolf as he was standing on the right side of the vehicle, according to police. Wolf was pronounced dead on the scene.

The driver of the Corolla immediately pulled over after striking Wolf, while the driver of the Lyft fled the scene, officials said. The Lyft driver has not yet been identified by officials, and it’s not clear what vehicle he was driving, although police believe it was “possibly” a white Honda Pilot.
