‘They don’t want to go fast anymore’: Trump rips Pelosi for holding up Senate impeachment trial

President Trump hit House Speaker Nancy Pelosi for withholding the articles of impeachment from the Senate after a rushed process in the lower chamber.

In a string of early morning tweets on Thursday, Trump criticized Pelosi for refusing to turn over the impeachment articles to the Senate until she agrees to the terms of the trial that will be used by Majority Leader Mitch McConnell. The president noted that Pelosi refused to wait to hear from other witnesses because she felt he was a “threat” to the 2020 elections, only to delay the impeachment after the House made its near party-line vote.

“The Radical Left, Do Nothing Democrats said they wanted to RUSH everything through to the Senate because ‘President Trump is a threat to National Security’ (they are vicious, will say anything!), but now they don’t want to go fast anymore, they want to go very slowly. Liars!” Trump tweeted.

He then singled out Pelosi and Democratic California Gov. Gavin Newsom, who happens to be the speaker’s nephew, over conditions in their home state.

“Nancy Pelosi’s District in California has rapidly become one of the worst anywhere in the U.S. when it come to the homeless & crime,” Trump wrote. “It has gotten so bad, so fast — she has lost total control and, along with her equally incompetent governor, Gavin Newsom, it is a very sad sight!”

Trump had zeroed in on Pelosi and Newsom on Wednesday night, as well. He ripped Newsom over homelessness while bashing Pelosi again over her handling of the impeachment trial.

“Why should Crazy Nancy Pelosi, just because she has a slight majority in the House, be allowed to Impeach the President of the United States? Got ZERO Republican votes, there was no crime, the call with Ukraine was perfect, with ‘no pressure.’ She said it must be ‘bipartisan & overwhelming,’ but this Scam Impeachment was neither,” he wrote.

He added, “Also, very unfair with no Due Process, proper representation, or witnesses. Now Pelosi is demanding everything the Republicans weren’t allowed to have in the House. Dems want to run majority Republican Senate. Hypocrites!”

As Trump noted, no Republicans voted with Democrats on impeachment during the historic vote. Legal scholars are still debating whether Trump has been officially impeached until the speaker agrees to turn the process over to the Senate.
